KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — A Canadian soldier has suffered a non-combat related gunshot wound on the main NATO base in Kandahar city.
Maj. Mario Couture says it appears the injury was caused by the soldier’s own weapon, but no other details have been released.
The injured soldier is in critical but stable condition and is expected to be transferred to a military hospital in Landstuhl, Germany.
An investigation into the shooting is underway.
The soldier, whose name will not be released, was found in a bunker near a residential area on the Kandahar base.
He had recently arrived in Kandahar from Canada.
