Lingerie too racy for Canada Post

OTTAWA — Threatening talk of an election and other serious topics were pushed aside in Ottawa today, for a brief while.

In between probing questions, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff went so far as to declare he is a “fan of lacy lingerie.”

The hot topic that got MPs’ knickers in a twist was Canada Post showing the goods from Adult Boutique on the comparison tab of its website.

Liberal Bonnie Crombie raised the point during question period, charging there is “erotic advertising” on a government website.

The Mississauga, Ont., MP said sex toys, racy accessories and other erotica were being sold on Canada Post’s online store.

The government was quick to react, with junior minister Rob Merrifield declaring that the goods would be quickly removed from the site.

“It’s not appropriate for a Crown corporation to get into selling inappropriate materials and that’s where I’m at and I believe that’s what Canadian citizens expect of us.”

Ignatieff did agree with the government saying it was inappropriate.
