BRANDON, Man. — A priest has been charged with break-and-enter as well as theft from a Catholic church in Manitoba.

A member of the St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church in Brandon says the accused was an assistant priest there.

The member says he accepted a position in the town of Virden about a year ago.

Raju Madanu, who is 35, was charged in June after a complaint from the church about a “considerable” amount of missing cash.

Police said at the time that someone entered the church early June 29.

A man arrested nearby was found with the cash.
