OTTAWA — A new poll suggests that most Canadians who tuned into the speech from the throne liked what they heard.

OTTAWA — A new poll suggests that most Canadians who tuned into the speech from the throne liked what they heard.

And it also suggests more people approved of the federal budget than opposed it.

The Canadian Press Harris-Decima survey says 87 per cent of those surveyed agreed with the throne speech proposal to freeze the salaries of MPs and senators.

Another 79 per cent backed the speech’s promise of more tough-on-crime legislation.

Support was more muted for the budget: 42 per cent supported it, while 28 per cent opposed it.

The poll of 1,905 adults was conducted between March 4-7, and has a margin of error of 2.2 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
