Motorist jumps to his death after crash

Police in New Brunswick are trying to determine why a man involved in a two-car crash on the weekend bolted from his vehicle, ran to a nearby overpass and jumped to his death.

GRAND BAY-WESTFIELD, N.B. — Police in New Brunswick are trying to determine why a man involved in a two-car crash on the weekend bolted from his vehicle, ran to a nearby overpass and jumped to his death.

Investigators say the man was the lone occupant of a vehicle that left the road after it collided with a second vehicle carrying four people near Grand Bay-Westfield, northwest of Saint John.

Acting Staff Sgt. Don Cooper says the man, in his early 40s, ran from his car, shouting, “I never seen them. I never meant to hit him.” He then jumped over a guard rail and fell to his death on Route 177.

The occupants of the other vehicle were taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The dead man’s identity has yet to be released.
