One arrested after cyclists hurt in crash

A man was in police custody and a vehicle was recovered after an early morning crash on Sunday that sent five cyclists to hospital with serious injuries.

OTTAWA — A man was in police custody and a vehicle was recovered after an early morning crash on Sunday that sent five cyclists to hospital with serious injuries.

A city bylaw officer was the first person on the scene of the crash in Kanata shortly before 8 a.m. and called 911.

A van believed to have been involved was observed leaving the scene following the collision.

Paramedics arrived and found five cyclists.

“When paramedics first arrived on the scene, all five were unconscious,” said Darryl Wilton, superintendent of operations for Ottawa Paramedics.

Collision specialists are continuing their investigation into the crash.
