Police ID body found in barrel in Lake Ontario; victim had Asian crime links

Police say the remains found in a barrel fished out of Lake Ontario belong to a missing Markham, Ont., man.

TORONTO — Police say the remains found in a barrel fished out of Lake Ontario belong to a missing Markham, Ont., man.

Det. Justin Vander Heyden says Quang Lu, who disappeared in October 2007, had links to Asian crime.

Police say the 47-year-old Lu was known to police and was identified by fingerprints.

They aren’t saying much more about the condition of the body, except that it was well preserved.

The remains were found Sunday, encased in concrete in a rusted barrel pulled from the water just off a construction site.

The confirmation of the identity came from the coroner’s office, which painstakingly began chipping away at the concrete after the steel drum was taken there.
