TORONTO — Toronto police are releasing the name of a young woman found dead in a basement apartment near York University.

Qian Liu, 23, of Beijing, was found dead just before noon Friday at 27 Aldwinckle Heights, in the Sentinel Road and Finch Avenue West area.

Police are still looking for a man reportedly seen struggling with her earlier that morning.

Investigators say Liu was chatting with a friend by webcam around 1 a.m. when an unknown man knocked on the door.

The friend, who lives overseas, reported seeing a struggle break out between the two before the man turned off Liu’s laptop.

Police say the laptop is now missing. It is believed to be an IBM ThinkPad T400.

Investigators say Liu was found naked from the waist down, but that there were no obvious signs of sexual assault or trauma that would have led to her death. Police are treating the death as suspicious while they wait for forensic tests.
