Premiers woo China with Shanghai trade office

Canada’s westernmost provinces have opened a new trade office in Shanghai in an effort to bolster economic ties in China.

REGINA — Canada’s westernmost provinces have opened a new trade office in Shanghai in an effort to bolster economic ties in China.

The premiers of Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan say the office will help promote Western Canadian industries, including green technology, natural resources and agriculture.

Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall says the move makes it easier for investors to do business.

Premier Ed Stelmach of Alberta says the Shanghai office gives the provinces an expanded presence in a crucial market.

Shanghai is China’s trade and financial hub, is the world’s second-busiest port.
