100+ Women donates $17,000

Local group donates money from quarterly meeting to Habitat for Humanity Red Deer.

Habitat for Humanity Red Deer has another $17,000 thanks to 100+ Women Who Care Red Deer.

The charitable group chose Habitat as the recipient of the money raised at its recent quarterly meeting.

100 Women co-founder Susan Knopp said members of the group make a pitch for a worthy charity at the meeting and then members vote on the recipient from three choices. The money comes from the $100 each women puts in at the meeting. 100 Women has about 175 members.

“It was really timely (for Habitat) because they are starting a build in southeast Red Deer shortly,” said Knopp.

Habitat has been a big success story in Red Deer and area.

In the organization’s 23 years, it has housed 33 families and two more families will be accommodated in Habitat’s next project, a duplex.
