Donald Osudar missed a zero when he was checking the Extra on his Western 6/49 ticket for the May 23 draw … but he was pretty happy anyway.

It was only after double checking that Osudar realized he was going to be taking home $100,000.

“I thought it was $10,000 at first,” he said with a laugh when claiming his prize in August.

Osudar matched the last six digits of the winning Extra number – 3305239 – to take home the game’s second top prize.

He bought his ticket the day before the draw at Run’N on Empty at 5101 76th St. in Red Deer.

Osudar opted to hold on to his winning ticket – even though he found out about his win the day after the draw in May – so he could claim his money in person.

All lottery prize offices were closed to the public earlier this year to help reduce the risk of COVID-19 for both winners and office staff, although prizes were still being processed by mail.

In the few months that passed between finding out about his win and claiming his prize, Osudar gave some thought to what he’ll do with his windfall.

He says he’s going to use the money to pay some bills and set some aside for his children.
