Red Deer RCMP rescued a party of 11 river rafters Saturday afternoon after they became entangled with a bridge abutment near Gaetz Avenue.

Red Deer emergency services assisted and deployed a boat.

Seven rafters were found on one side of the river, three on the other side. The 11th person was located down river.

All 11 rafters (nine adults and two youth) were helped from the river. No injuries were reported.

“Red Deer RCMP would like to advise the public that the Red Deer River is currently flowing faster and higher than normal. As such, all precautions should be taken when entering the waterway, including the wearing of personal flotation devices,” said Const. Mike Dunsmore in a release.
