More than 3,100 people attended the fourth live edition of Olds College’s two-day AgSmart expo this year.
AgSmart 2023 was held on Tuesday and Wednesday, with a focus on agriculture technology and data across the sector, including how to gather it, use it and enhance productivity and profits.
“At Olds College, we work very hard to be at the cutting edge of agriculture and technology in Alberta and around the world,” said Todd Ormann, vice-president of development at Olds College School of Agriculture and Technology.
“Our annual AgSmart event is an opportunity for all members of the ag community to come together to our pool our knowledge and resources, to share our experiences, and really to strengthen and grow the industry as a whole. We are proud to have built a quality event over these last several years, and I am already looking forward to next year.”
The expo featured 42 educational sessions from industry experts, covering everything from leveraging artificial intelligence in agriculture and regenerative agriculture and satellite imagery uses on farms.
The expo is described as a unique opportunity for producers to engage with the college’s Smart Farm and Technology Access Centre for Livestock Production related projects, such as precision spraying and predictive mapping.
AgSmart also welcomed 114 exhibitors to the outdoor expo and had several hands-on agriculture technology demos for people to experience, including Threshhold UAV’s swarm drone mapping, ride and drive of Claas’ Axion tractor and the COWGO loading system.
“As a producer, I find a value in attending an expo like AgSmart since it highlights all types of agricultural innovations and technology that shows producers how they can incorporate it into their current operation,” said Jason Lenz, producer and member of AgSmart Industry Advisory Committee.
Field Crop Development Centre hosted its annual field day at AgSmart on Wednesday and celebrated 50 years of variety innovation. The centre’s crop plots were part of 30 crop plots included in the expo this year.
Plans are already underway for next year’s AgSmart, which is scheduled to take place July 30 and 31, 2024.
