DUCK LAKE, Sask. — An autopsy was to be done Tuesday on the body of a 16-year-old girl who died in a house fire on a northern Saskatchewan First Nation.

RCMP say the home on the Beardy’s and Okemasis Cree Nation sustained minor damage in the fire, which happened Sunday afternoon.

They say there was only one person in the home at the time and that the girl is the only victim.

Her identity was expected to be confirmed during the autopsy.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

A councillor for the First Nation, Kevin Seesequasis, says in a release posted on the community’s website Sunday evening that the RCMP is treating the fire as suspicious.
