20-year-old man charged with attempted murder for school parking lot shooting

Shooting happened around 5:50 p.m. near Holy Family School

Red Deer RCMP have laid charges against the suspect in last Thursday’s shooting.

Austin Sim-Pelletier, 20, is charged with attempted murder, seven firearms offences and being disguised while committing an offence.

Sim-Pelletier remains in custody until his next court appearance Tuesday.

RCMP received a call of shots being fired in a parking lot near Holy Family School last Thursday.

When police arrived, a man fired a gun, hitting a 21-year-old male. The shooter then fled in an SUV.

A number of individuals saw the shooting, said police.

Officers located the suspect’s home in Anders a short time later and surrounded it.

The suspect surrendered at about 1 a.m. and was arrested without incident after negotiations assited by the RCMP emergency response team.

The victim was taken to hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
