2016 Canada census shows healthy growth in Red Deer

Basic census data released; lots more to come as year progresses

Basic 2016 census information released Wednesday by Statistics Canada shows Red Deer holding its rating as Alberta’s third largest city with a population of 100,418.

Red Deer grew by 10.9 per cent since the last census in 2011. That beats the national rate of 5 per cent, but is below the Alberta provincial rate of 11.6 per cent. Overall Alberta had the highest growth in Canada.

Canada’s population grew to 35.2 million, an increase of 1.7 million from 2011.

More census data will be revealed through 2017.
