The headliner and recipient charity for 2023’s edition of Cowboy Kicks have been revealed.

Tickets for the second annual event, which is being held May 18 at the Peavey Mart Centrium in Red Deer’s Westerner Park, will go on sale this Friday via Tickets Alberta.

Nice Horse will be the headliner for this year’s event, which will raise money for the Westerner Foundation and the Canadian Rodeo Historical Association.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Nice Horse as this year’s headliner as we raise funds for the Westerner Foundation and the Canadian Rodeo Historical Association,” said Kathy Lacey, Cowboy Kicks committee chair.

“Nice Horse’s music is the perfect soundtrack for a fundraising experience like Cowboy Kicks. The funds raised through Cowboy Kicks will support the Canadian Rodeo Historical Association to modernize the Canadian Professional Rodeo Hall of Fame in Ponoka to create an enhanced and interactive experience for visitors and celebrate the accomplishments of Hall of Fame inductees.”

In addition to performances by Nice Horse and an opening act, Cowboy Kicks will also feature a live auction where four packages of “one-of-a-kind experiences” and four-feet high fibreglass cowboy boots, hand-painted by Albertan artists, will be auctioned off. There will also be a charity auction featuring two-feet high, hand-painted fibreglass boots and donations from local businesses.

“Cowboy Kicks is where arts meets west,” said Lacey.

“Not only are funds raised supporting the Westerner Foundation and the Canadian Rodeo Historical Association, two central Alberta not-for-profits, but we are spotlighting musical talents like Nice Horse and a dozen Albertan artists who are creating unique artworks on fibreglass cowboy boots.”

Cowboy Kicks helps the Westerner Foundation promote, fundraise and invest in initiatives that aim to support the future sustainability of Westerner Park.
