Central Alberta residents are standing behind a three-year-old Sylvan Lake boy battling a brain tumour.

A GoFundMe campaign for Blake Bellavance has surpassed its goal of $5,000 and has so far raised more than $17,000 for the family.

Blake had seven-hour surgery, which was successful, on July 19. The cancerous brain tumour was occupying 80 per cent of his brain, according to family.

Jennifer Moborg, the boy’s aunt, started the fundraising campaign.

“I feel totally helpless, and the only way I feel like I can help is to raise some money for their family’s future.”

The family says the surgery got 90 to 95 per cent of the tumour out. The remaining portion was deemed too dangerous to remove.

Blake has a younger brother, Wyatt, 5, and a new sibling on the way.

What should be a joyous time in the family’s life, including mother and father Shannon and Jory, has been stressful.

A Facebook page states Blake has a long recovery ahead.

A silent auction will run Tuesday to Friday on Facebook, which will also support the family financially.
