Central Alberta’s influenza numbers are continuing to climb.
Alberta Health Services’ central zone currently has 655 cases of the flu, according to statistics provided on the provincial government’s website.
There are 104 hospitalizations, including 11 intensive care unit admissions in the central zone as well. Four people have died.
Provincially, there are 6,288 flu cases. There are 1,124 people currently hospitalized in Alberta, including 112 in ICUs. Twenty-four flu-related deaths have been reported in the province throughout the influenza season.
More than 1 million flu vaccine doses have been administered – 150,019 doses have been administered by AHS, 846,200 have been administered by pharmacies and 71,218 have been administered by other providers.
Twenty-four per cent of Albertans have received an influenza vaccine. Sixty-two per cent of Albertans who are 65 or older have been vaccinated.
