Rimbey’s annual 100-foot Shootout was in danger of cancellation this past weekend, but the weather finally relented and racing was allowed to resume a day late.

The popular event was called off Saturday due to heavy rain and organizers voted unanimously to bump the mainstreet event to Sunday afternoon.

About 2,500 fans came out to watch the modified cars duke it out down 100 feet of real estate.

For the first time, a souped-up Leduc RCMP Highway Patrol car was in the shootout. The RCMP unit is a retired 1995 Chevrolet Caprice fitted with an LTI Corvette Engine, giving it 700 to 750 horsepower.
