83-year-old man charged after fatal collision in Red Deer

An 83-year-old Red Deer man has been charged with criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide a breath sample after a fatal collision earlier this week.

An 83-year-old Red Deer man has been charged with criminal negligence causing death and failing to provide a breath sample after a fatal collision earlier this week.

On Tuesday, Red Deer RCMP were called to 48 Street and 52 Avenue, where a 68-year-old female pedestrian was struck by a truck while in the crosswalk.

Medical treatment was provided, but the woman died at the scene.

RCMP announced the 83-year-old driver of the truck was charged on Friday.

Following a judicial hearing, he was released with conditions and is scheduled to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court Oct. 6.

Anyone with video or dash cam footage of the area the collision occurred, between 11:50 a.m. and noon on Tuesday, or with additional information about this incident, is asked to contact Red Deer RCMP at 403-343-5575.
