City Hall Park, in the heart of downtown Red Deer, has the distinction of blooming twice a year. In summer, it is an oasis of greens and floral colours from the layout of carefully-tended flower beds, holding thousands of plants.

But after the flowers have long frozen and died, or have gone into a winter’s sleep, the park blooms once again, in Christmas lights. Low-wattage LED lights transform the bare branches of the park’s trees into a garden of sculptures.

It’s well worth a family’s walk to visit the park after dark, just as the park’s flowers attract attention from visitors all summer long.
