The Olds RCMP arrested a suspect found sleeping in a stolen vehicle.

On Monday afternoon, RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked behind a local business. Police were told a Dodge Ram truck had been parked there for several hours and the driver appeared to be sleeping.

Officers determined the vehicle had been stolen from Red Deer earlier that morning.

The sole occupant of the truck was arrested without incident. He was also wanted on an arrest warrant and had outstanding charges for several other property-related offences in southern Alberta.

When he was searched, the suspect was found to be in possession of weapons and what is suspected to be methamphetamine.

A vehicle search also revealed other stolen items, including gas cards, registration documents and cheques.

Steven Andrew Shier, 39, of Calgary, is charged with nine new offences including several counts of possession of stolen property and of a controlled substance.

He’s in custody and set to appear in Calgary provincial court on Friday.
