Lacombe will be the site of an adaptive water ski “give it a go” day.

The clinic is part of an introductory adaptive water ski series launched by Water Ski and Wakeboard Alberta, at lake sites across the province, with the hopes of promoting adaptive water skiing for disabled athletes.

“These clinics are open to all persons with disabilities…any age and any ability. We supply all the equipment, volunteers support people, boats and drivers. We love this sport and we want it to be accessible to everyone,” said Rae-Lee Colcleugh, program coordinator. “Our goal is to introduce persons with disabilities to towed water sports and ultimately, to identify athletes who want to progress and learn to compete.”

The clinic will take place on Aug. 12 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Schacres Lake, a man-made water ski lake. It was opened in the spring of 2021.

“I’m excited to host Schacres Lake’s first “give it a go” day. I’m sure this will be an annual event to support the Adaptive Water Ski program in Alberta, and with the learnings from our first event, we will work to make each one even better,” said Todd Schafer, owner of Alberta’s newest water ski site.
