AHS announces enhanced visitation

Alberta Health Services is taking additional precautions to limit transmission of COVID-19 at acute and continuing care sites, in light of the emergence of the Omicron variant.

Beginning Tuesday, these precautions will include limits to site access for designated support persons and visitors who are close contacts of a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19.

The measure will apply to anyone who is a close contact, including individuals who are fully immunized.

“This means that designated support persons or visitors who are a close contact or have a case of COVID-19 in their home will not be able to access Continuing Care or AHS acute care sites for 14 days from the date of last exposure,” AHS said in a statement Monday.

“This temporary measure mirrors similar limits to visitation during previous waves and is intended to protect patients, residents and healthcare providers.”
