Police are investigating claims that some vaccine appointments are intentionally being wasted by people who are making bookings and purposely not following through with getting a vaccine.

Alberta Health Services is aware of individuals who have claimed on social media to have booked multiple COVID-19 vaccination appointments in an attempt to prevent other Albertans from receiving their dose.

“We have shared this with law enforcement,” AHS said in a release. Alberta Health Services is also making Alberta’s participating pharmacies aware of these claims.

AHS has systems in place to prevent double bookings through an online tool and Health Link 811.

“We are also watching our no-show numbers to determine if false bookings are being made,” stated AHS in a release.

So far, an increase in no shows has not been detected.

“By working together and ensuring vaccination appointments are available for all eligible Albertans, we can bring this pandemic under control faster.”
