Alberta Band Association hosting provincial festival in Red Deer

About 5,000 junior, senior and community band students will come to Red Deer to compete in the annual Alberta Band Association Provincial Festival of Bands.

This is the 44th year the festival has been held at Red Deer Polytechnic. The event will run at the RDP Arts Centre’s main stage from May 15-18 and May 24-26, from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. each day.

A number of adjudicators, educators and clinicians from across Canada will be judging this year’s festival. These judges include Gareth Jones from the University of Calgary, Dr. Jacqui Dawson from the University of Manitoba, Tom Spila from Camrose, Mark Ward from Medicine Hat, Sarah Drew from Calgary, Colin Clarke from Oakville, Ont., Dr. Gillian MacKay from the University of Toronto and Ken Rogers from Lethbridge.

Students will participate in performances, clinics and sight-reading activities throughout the seven days of the festival.
