Alberta government dumps its squeaky wheel on health wait times

Alberta’s outspoken parliamentary assistant to the minister of health has been suspended from the government caucus.

EDMONTON — Alberta’s outspoken parliamentary assistant to the minister of health has been suspended from the government caucus.

A provincial government spokesman confirms Raj Sherman, who is also an emergency room doctor, will sit as an Independent.

Sherman has been at the centre of a controversy surrounding the government’s handling of long wait times in emergency rooms.

Last week, Sherman apologized for an email he wrote ripping his government and Premier Ed Stelmach for their handling of the file.

But he kept up his attacks, later criticizing the former health minister -- now energy minister -- Ron Liepert.

Sherman says he hasn’t figured out what his next step is, but says he won’t be silenced in the health-care debate.
