Alberta Health has reduced the total number of COVID-19-related deaths in the province by five after reclassifying some fatalities.
The total number of COVID-related deaths has been reduced to 5,465 from 5,470 a week earlier, according to statistics to the end of Jan. 23.
There are 778 people in hospital, down from 856 the previous week, including 29 in the ICU, the same as the previous week.
In the Central Zone, there are 91 people in hospital infected with the virus, with six in the ICU.
According to geospatial mapping on the provincial government’s COVID-19 website, the Central zone has a seven-day new case rate of 18.9 per 100,000, above the provincial average of 14.7. There were 90 new cases over the past seven days in the zone. There have been 64,337 total cases in the region, with 705 COVID-19-related deaths.
Calgary had 8.5 cases per 100,000 over the past seven days, while Edmonton has 20.1. The South zone sits at 111.9 and the North zone is 16.
