Central Alberta residents can participate in free workshops that promote healthy living.

The sessions are offered as part of the Alberta Healthy Living Program, which is an Alberta Health Services initiative that aims to provide easy access to information.

The Truth About What Works in Weight Management workshop will teach attendees strategies to help lower calorie intake, explore meal patterns, food choices and portion size.

It runs July 9 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The Heart Wise workshop, which teaches attendees about high blood pressure, cholesterol and heart nutrition, will have two sessions: July 9 and 16 from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Three sessions of Managing Emotional Eating will be held July 10, 17 and 24 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The sessions help people learn about what influences eating behaviours and how to build skills to manage emotional eating.

All of the above workshops will be held at Bethany Collegeside.

There will also be four sessions for a workshop focusing on how to better manage Type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes. The sessions are July 10, 17, 24 and 31 from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

To register for a workshop, or for more information, call the Alberta Healthy Living Program at 1-877-314-6997. Registration is required.
