Alberta identifies 2,181 new COVID-19 cases over weekend

The City of Red Deer has fallen to 474 active cases.

This is 61 fewer cases than the 535 reported in Friday’s update, according to geospatial mapping on the provincial government’s website.

Alberta identifies 2,181 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend: 783 on Friday, 791 on Saturday and 607 on Sunday. Thirty new deaths were also reported over the weekend, bringing the province’s death toll to 2,976.

Of the new cases, 362 (59.15 per cent) were unvaccinated, 60 (9.8 per cent) were partially vaccinated and 190 (31.05) were completely vaccinated. Of the total active cases, 8,058 (65.50 per cent) are unvaccinated, 887 (7.21 per cent) are partially vaccinated and 3,357 (27.29 per cent) are fully vaccinated.

Provincially, there are 981 people in hospital with COVID-19, including 225 in intensive care units. In Alberta Health Services’ central zone, there are 178 hospitalizations, including 20 in ICU.

Red Deer County has 138 active cases of the virus, Clearwater County has 160, Lacombe County has 154, the City of Lacombe has 97, Sylvan Lake has 72, Stettler County has 68, Mountain View County has 69 and Olds has 26.

Wetaskiwin County, including Maskwacis, has 254 active cases. Ponoka, including East Ponoka County, has 81 and Rimbey has 66.
