Alberta legislature wraps up spring session that saw spectacular fall of Redford

One of the most dramatic sessions in the history of the Alberta legislature is wrapping up.

EDMONTON — One of the most dramatic sessions in the history of the Alberta legislature is wrapping up.

Politicians have one final day of questions today before returning to their constituencies for the summer.

It will be remembered as a session that saw the governing Tories start with one premier and end with another, with a new face coming in the fall.

Alison Redford resigned from the top job in March ahead of a caucus revolt over opulent spending on herself and her inner circle.

Dave Hancock took over as premier and began mending fences by apologizing to his party, striking a new contract deal with the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, and pulling back on controversial pension reforms.

But opposition politicians note the legislature only sat for seven weeks of debate, and passed little substantive legislation beyond the budget and new rules to protect children in care.
