Rocky Mountain House RCMP along with Alberta RCMP Major Crimes and RCMP Forensic Identification Services are investigating a suspicious death that is being treated as a homicide.

On Thursday, at 8:16 p.m., Rocky Mountain House RCMP received a 911 call of a firearms incident where a man had been injured as a result. The 23-year-old victim from O’Chiese First Nations, Troy Beaverbones, was airlifted from STARS. He later died in hospital, police say.

Further investigation has resulted in Alberta RCMP Major Crimes arresting 27-year-old Lyle Bearspaw of no fixed address for the second degree murder of Beaverbones.

Bearspaw’s charges include second degree murder as well as break and enter and breach of probation.

On Thursday, Rocky Mountain House RCMP responded to a call of a break and enter at the O’Chiese First Nations Community Centre. Rocky Mountain House RCMP arrested Bearspaw, who was found at that location, and subsequently charged.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes, Rocky Mountain House RCMP and RCMP Forensic Identification Services remain on scene of this suspicious death.

An autopsy was being completed at the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner Friday.

Following a judicial hearing, Bearspaw was remanded into custody to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on Sept. 3, 2020.
