Alberta NDP asks why no paper trail on cancellation of Redford’s ’sky palace?’

Alberta’s NDP is asking the privacy commissioner to investigate why there is no paper trail on the cancellation of a penthouse suite for former premier Alison Redford.

EDMONTON — Alberta’s NDP is asking the privacy commissioner to investigate why there is no paper trail on the cancellation of a penthouse suite for former premier Alison Redford.

NDP Infrastructure critic Deron Bilous says a freedom of information request on the so-called “sky palace” turned up nothing.

Bilous says that suggests a coverup or a bid by the governing PCs to keep a politically embarrassing project off the official record.

Privacy commissioner Jill Clayton is already investigating allegations that under Redford, the government sought to interfere in the freedom on information process to limit the political fallout on controversial issues.

Redford resigned as premier in March amid controversy over opulent spending on herself and her inner circle.

Former infrastructure minister Ric McIver said at the time he cancelled the penthouse project in January, but offered no contemporaneous proof of that decision.
