CALGARY — Alberta’s police watchdog is investigating the Christmas Day shooting death of a woman by Calgary police.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team says the 29-year-old woman was shot by an officer after police boxed in her vehicle.
Investigators say the officer fired after she continued to drive the vehicle and the confrontation escalated.
The woman, whose car is registered in British Columbia, was not identified.
No police were hurt.
Calgary police have said they worked to corner a suspected impaired driver who wouldn’t pull over and at one point had driven the wrong way down a road.
