Alberta reports 596 new COVID-19 cases over past 7 days

Alberta added 21 new COVID-19-related deaths over the past seven days, according to the government of Alberta website.

The province has had a total of 5,486 deaths related to the virus since the outset of the pandemic.

Between Jan. 24 and Jan. 30, Alberta reported 596 new cases. There were 702 people in hospital infected with the virus province-wide, including 25 in the ICU. Hospitalizations are down 154 from last week, while ICU patients were reduced by four.

In the Central Zone, there are 79 people in hospital infected with the virus down from 91, with four in the ICU.

According to geospatial mapping on the provincial government’s COVID-19 website, the Central zone has a seven-day new case rate of 17.6 per 100,000, above the provincial average of 13.5. There were 84 new cases over the past seven days in the zone. There have been 64,422 total cases in the region, with 709 COVID-19-related deaths.

Calgary had 9.2 cases per 100,000 over the past seven days, while Edmonton has 17.6. The South zone sits at 12.5 and the North zone is 12.5.
