Albertans dig deeper to camp out: fees set to rise for 2015 season

Alberta campers better bring some extra cash with them this season.

EDMONTON — Alberta campers better bring some extra cash with them this season.

The province says it is increasing site fees by $3 a night — putting prices in the range of $5 to $26, depending on the location.

There will be an additional $1 fee for sites with power to offset utility costs.

Fees for group sites will rise from the current $50 up to a maximum of $150.

Environment Minister Kyle Fawcett says the fees will generate almost $2 million to be reinvested in Alberta’s 245 provincial campgrounds.

Alberta’s online camping registration opens Tuesday.
