EDMONTON — Alberta’s jobs minister Thomas Lukaszuk has joined the race to be the province’s next Progressive Conservative leader and premier.
Lukaszuk announced his intentions outside a coffee house in downtown Edmonton.
His entry makes it a three-person race and Lukaszuk says he wants to ensure the party have a strong debate.
He says he will have a volunteer-run grassroots campaign and is confident that if party members like his ideas they will vote for him.
Lukaszuk says a key issue will be restoring trust with the public lost in the lavish spending scandals of former premier Alison Redford.
One-time Calgary MP Jim Prentice and former Alberta infrastructure minister Ric McIver are also running.
Party members vote in September.
