Ben Campbell, of the Black Diamond area, was named winner of the Outstanding Young Farmers of Alberta/ Northwest Territories award at a ceremony held in Red Deer on March 17 and 18.

Nearly 70 people— alumni, nominees, sponsors, government officials and special guests — attended the 2022 event over the two days.

Campbell’s Tullichewan Ranch offers consumers a direct to market grass-fed beef option. The young farmer’s passion for environmental sustainability is integral to his operation. Campbell believes “the cattle serve the needs of the grass and soil, not the other way around.”

The Alberta/NWT Region of Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers Program were pleased and proud to choose from three diverse and impressive operations at the 2022 Regional Event. The Nominees recognized also included Zoë, Farley and Mathew Gould, of Gould’s Ranch in Consort, and Russ Van Boom, co-owner of Northbank Potato Farms in Sturgeon County.

Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers’ program is an annual competition to recognize farmers that exemplify excellence in their profession and promote agriculture. It’s open to participants 18 to 39 years of age and sponsored by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and various corporations.
