An Alix man was arrested after fleeing police in an allegedly stolen vehicle.

Stettler RCMP were called to a rural property Wednesday around 9 a.m. where there was a man requested assistance in replacing a tire.

When police arrived the man fled in a vehicle, which was later determined to be stolen.

Stettler RCMP and Blackfalds Integrated Traffic officers tracked the vehicle to another rural property where it was ditched and a Ford F-350 truck was stolen.

Other drivers on the road spotted the F-350 and told police it was heading north toward Stettler.

Around 11 a.m., Bashaw RCMP received a complaint of a man trying to get into vehicles using a hammer in Alix. The man’s description matched the previous investigation’s suspect, so Stettler RCMP and Blackfalds ITU officers provided assistance.

After a brief foot chase, the 29-year-old man was arrested. Police say the man caused mischief to some vehicles, broke into a garage and stole some items while in Alix.

He facing a number of charges, including theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, flight from police and mischief.

The man will appear in court Monday.
