Alix man wins $1M in the lottery

An Alix man didn’t sleep too much after he won more than a million dollars in the Western 649 lottery.

An Alix man didn’t sleep too much after he won more than a million dollars in the Western 649 lottery.

Kelly Korman said he only got about 20 minutes of sleep because he was so excited. His heart was pounding and his chest heart as he learned and lived his good fortune.

Checking the winning numbers on his phone for the Aug. 27 draw of the Western 649, the whole family was in the master bedroom because of a big thunderstorm that evening.

“I saw the first three winning numbers on my ticket, then the fourth,” recalled Korman. “Then I saw the last two numbers and all hell broke loose.

“I flew out of bed and I said to my wife, ‘oh my god we just won Western 649.”

He spent most of the night awake, just waiting to get the chance to double-check his windfall with a lottery retailer.

“I was just so happy,” he said. “I’ve dreamt about this so many times. Just a few weeks ago, I told my wife I had a dream we won the lottery.

Korman purchased his winning ticket at he Alix Gas Plus. Because he matched all six main winning numbers he won the game’s $1 million prize. Because he played the eight-number combination play he also won several extra prizes. Bringing his total winnings to $1,006,850.

He already has plans for the money including paying off his mortgage and other bills, saving a for his children’s education, visiting some relatives and taking a family vacation.
