Alleged assault of hockey player investigated

RCMP are investigating an allegation that an 18-year-old hockey player was assaulted by a rival player’s mother at a weekend tournament in Eckville.

Sylvan Lake RCMP confirmed they are investigating a complaint of an alleged assault following a Saturday game.

It is alleged that a mother hit the Lethbridge teen with a hockey stick.

There were no injuries reported, said Sylvan Lake Cpl. Kevin Halwa.

“Because it was a tournament, a lot of the witnesses are not from the area, so it’s taking a little bit longer than normal,” said Halwa.

“We’re investigating completely and once that’s done and if there are charges to be laid, they will be laid.”

The mother of the teen who was allegedly hit called police.

She was not at the game.
