AMA commits to adding more EV charging stations

The Alberta Motor Association has introduced a number of new services for drivers of electric vehicles.

As of Nov. 21, they added Level 2 charging stations in Edmonton, Medicine Hat and Lethbridge. They also added two EVs to the AMA Driving School and a pilot program in Edmonton that provides emergency roadside top-up charging.

“We’ve been part of Albertans’ mobility journey since 1926; supporting EVs is simply the next step,” explained Michelle Chimko, President and CEO of AMA.

“No matter the mode of travel—from pedal power to plug-ins, and everything in between—Albertans deserve the same support and peace of mind that comes from membership.”

The charging stations were partially funded by Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program and the SouthGrow Electric Vehicle Charging Program, administered by the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre.

AMA also plans to add a number of EV charging stations across the province and has also released an EV Buyer’s Guide to “provide impartial, authoritative guidance for the ‘EV curious’.”

“Mobility has changed a lot over the years but our commitment to mindful motoring—and being there for Albertans when and how they need us—remains the same,” added Chimko.

“Today is a major step forward on that journey, and just the beginning of a very exciting future for AMA and EVs.”
