The Alberta Motor Association held a drive-thru food drive in Red Deer Sunday to support people in need.

AMA’s annual Fill Our Fleet campaign is held across the province in support of local food banks. Every dollar raised and every non-perishable donated goes directly to community food banks.

“It’s so important to feed the homeless and there are so many families struggling, even more so now with the pandemic,” said Vicki Raines, AMA Red Deer branch manager.

The Red Deer branch has been collecting donations through the Fill Our Fleet campaign over the past 15 years. But this was the first time the event gave Red Deerians the chance to drop off donations without having to leave their vehicle.

“We have a ton of food … and some people are coming with loads of food in their trunk. It’s wonderful,” said Raines.

“We’re entirely grateful to the community. We’re seeing such an uptick in people dropping by who didn’t know about it and are dropping off money. It’s been a great day.”
