Looking to make a pass, Kassidie Heibert spins on her heels as Caitlin McCarthy runs past in an effort to get to her starting position before the ball is passed from hand to hand around a circle of students at Grandview Elementary School in Red Deer on Tuesday. The students from Brandee Johnson’s Grade 2 class were learning the basics of the game of rugby with Titans Rugby player Shannon Court, who also plays with the University of Lethbridge. All this week, students at Grandview, in Grades 1 to 6, are learning the finer points of the game by playing in the gymnasium on days when the weather is inclement and outdoors when the weather is better. Through to the end of June, members of the Titans rugby club will be travelling to area schools to introduce the sport to young athletes.
