Car lovers gathered at Westerner Park for the annual Quick Times Red Deer Swap Meet.
Saturday’s event filled the Prairie and Parkland pavilions with an indoor automotive swap meet, hot rod performance, muscle and racing car parts, memorabilia and apparel, and more.
Vicki Macgowan, whose husband Don runs the swap meet, said the event gives people a place to sell or buy car parts.
“Don saw a need for car guys to sell parts, so he started the Quick Times Magazine, which is like a buy, sell and trade,” said Macgowan.
“From this, he then started the swap meets. When he first started out, it was on a smaller scale, but it has grown since then.”
Linda Collinge, who is also with the swap meet, said people from all over Canada attend the event.
“We always have packed floor plans … and then people come through the door all day,” said Collinge.
“It’s a social event for some of these guys, because they don’t always get the chance to see each other often.
“Some of them may not have anything they need to buy, but they’ll come and see someone they haven’t seen in a while.”
Macgowan added that “longtime friendships” are built from events like Saturday’s swap meet.
The spring swap meet is usually a little busier, Macgowan added.
“It’s the time when guys are ready to build their cars and get ready for summer,” she said.
