City of Red Deer is looking for anyone interested in relocating a historic former Scout hut.
Rover Cabin, located on 47th Avenue near 53rd Street, is up for grabs, as long as the buyer covers the costs of relocation and removal.
The structure has been deemed cost-prohibitive to maintain and the city is exploring options prior to removal. Structural and integrity assessments were conducted for the building and the reviews did not recommend preservation.
Community members have shown some interest in relocation, the city says. Residents or businesses interested in relocating the 400-square-foot building can contact the city planning department for more information and to make arrangements for transport. The deadline to make an offer is Dec. 22 and the Scout hut would have to be removed by April 1, 2022.
The hut was constructed in 1937 as a square-style, one-room log cabin. Inside, there is a stone fireplace, dirt floors, and evidence of past flood and fire damage. There is also a small shed addition that has been badly fire damaged and needs to be demolished.
Interested parties that can cover the removal and relocation of the former scout hut expenses can submit inquiries to planning@reddeer.ca.
