Red Deer City Hall will be illuminated in teal after dusk on April 28 in recognition of the Month of the Military Child in April.

The Calgary Tower, and Lethbridge City Hall will similarly have a teal glow, and people are encouraged to share photos of the three landmarks on social media.

Calgary Military Family Resource Centre also hopes that people will wear teal on April 29 for Teal Up Day to show their support for military children and their families.

Teal was chosen to represent Canadian military children because it incorporates all branches of the military: blue for the air force, green for the army, and blue and white for the navy.

“We are proud to stand alongside military families and recognize the resilience of their children during the Month of the Military Child,” said Barbara Pohl, executive director of the Calgary resource centre.

“Wearing teal and sharing images of local landmarks illuminated in teal not only honours these young heroes but also amplifies the importance of recognizing and thanking military personnel, and their families, in our communities.”

The resource centre says military children face unique challenges throughout deployments, absences, relocations, and frequent change. Despite these challenges, they demonstrate remarkable courage, strength, and adaptability.

Throughout the month, the Calgary resource centre will be hosting events and initiatives to celebrate military children, who they call young heroes, and their families.
