Messinger Meats is closing its Red Deer store this month, but will continue operating from its meat plant in Mirror.

The company known for producing meat from locally raised, grass-fed and hormone-free livestock, is also planning to start up a new website on Feb. 1, allowing for online orders.

In a Facebook post, the owners gave distance, age and family planning as reasons why the retail outlet at 2067-50th Ave. will be shuttered on Jan. 27. “We have decided with a heavy heart not to engage in a new long-term commitment,” they stated in the post.

“It was a pleasure getting to know and serve you during the last five and a half years. We will continue to do so from our Meat Plant in Mirror.”

This will allow the business owners to focus on offering quarter beef, meat boxes, “and our products in all five Italian Centre Shop locations in Edmonton and Calgary.”

The post also states that gift certificates will be honoured even after the store closes, with ordered filled from the Mirror meat plant, with a pick-up location in Red Deer.

More information will be available at www.messingermeats.com and on the business’s Facebook page.
