EDMONTON — Alberta’s police watchdog is investigating after a man who was reportedly firing a gun in an Edmonton parking lot was shot and killed during a confrontation with police officers.

The Edmonton Police Service says in a news release that a caller reported a man was damaging vehicles near the neighbourhood of Millwoods on the city’s south side last night.

Police say he was located 10 minutes later about a block away.

They say police chased the man and at one point officers discharged their firearms and the man died.

Police say a gun was retrieved at the scene and no officers were harmed.
